National DV Hotline & LoveIsRespect Release NEW State Data

This week, the National Domestic Violence Hotline and LoveIsRespect released their 2016 State Reports, showing the number of calls, texts, and chats they received about domestic violence.

The National Domestic Violence Hotline is the 24/7/365 national hotline on domestic violence, and LoveIsRespect is their teen hotline. Both hotlines are available to answer questions, provide crisis intervention and safety planning information, and directly connect callers to domestic violence resources available in their local calling area.

Maryland State Report from the National Domestic Violence Hotline
In 2016, the National Domestic Violence Hotline documented* 3,235 contacts from Maryland. The state ranks 17th in terms of contact volume to The Hotline. An overwhelming majority of the victims and survivors (93%) said they were experiencing emotional and verbal abuse, as well as physical abuse (65%), Economic/Financial Abuse (22%) and Sexual Abuse (9%). Their top concerns were shelter, legal advocacy, and individual counseling. 34% of callers disclosed that there were children involved in the situation.

LoveIsRespectMaryland State Report from Love is Respect.org
In 2016, LoveIsRespect documented 431 contacts* from Maryland, a 31% increase from 2015. The state ranks 15th in terms of contact volume. An overwhelming majority of the victims and survivors (92%) said they were experiencing emotional and verbal abuse, as well as physical abuse (56%), and Sexual Abuse (19%). Their top concerns were shelter, legal advocacy, and individual counseling.
